Out now: Jungle Jive and Slow Grind Fever 5 Due to constant illness und hospital stays we had to neglect our website. Sorry about that. More news to follow soon. Here are two new Stag-O-Lee releases:

Jungle Jive – Voodoo Exotica Jungle Swing 10“
Inspired by the call of the wild and the primitive beat, from the deepest jungle to the far-off Orient... This collection of voodoo exotica comes from the vaults of Swingin’ Dick’s 78 Social. Renown the world over as “The Original Gramophone Operative”, Swingin’ Dick shares his collection of shellac shaking phonographic 78rpm records for your edification. Join the enigmatic Dick as he spins his unique brand of Jungle Swing & Tribal Rhythms, 10 inches at a time!
Many of these sides are either unissued promo pressings or see their first inclusion on compilation here. Recorded directly from their battered 78 platters and remastered for your aural satisfaction, it’s time to embrace the hiss and crackle of authentic Swing records from the Thirties and Forties.
With jazz hotter than the Tropics, packed with the essence of both The Rhythm & The Blues, these tunes will have you swingin’ and swayin’ till you start sweatin’ !
The Sleeve is inspired by the vintage Schellack covers.

Slow Grind Fever – Vol. 5 LP
Welcome once more to Slow Grind Fever, the soundtrack to Melbourne’s smokiest slow dance party, where we play moody mid-century slow burners for the indolent and the aroused. If you’re ever in town on the last Saturday of the month, do come visit us. Listening to the albums is nice, but when you’re up there all wrapped up in the smoke and the smells and the sizzle of the records, there’s nothing quite like it.
Slow Grind Fever Vol. 5 was again compiled by SGF mastermind Richie1250 from Melbourne sharing sides with his DJ-sidekick Pierre Baroni. Expect the best in Slow Dance!
Volume 6 plus the CD-version of 5+6 coming soon.

Back in the saddle!

posted September 8th, 2015

Back in the saddle! Last post from March 11 - what a bummer. Believe it or not, I have been in hospital for most of the last 5 months. And as Stag-O-Lee is a one man operation the work came to (almost) a standstill. To all of you who placed orders in the meantime - it's going to take a while. I am extremely sorry about this!

A few records still were released and shipped by friends and family:

Earl Zinger & Don Rogall - In The Backroom CD
The two 10"-es plus 3 bonustracks. Killer 50s-style dancefloor tunage. In a nice digipak.

Marcel Bontempi - Witches, Spiders, Frogs & Holes/Demos And Recordings 2009-2014  LP+7"/CD
21 amazing tunes – 14 taken from his various 7“-releases on Witchcraft, Sleazy, Stag-O-Lee, Migraine and Squoodge (which are mostly sold-out) and 7 tunes previously unreleased!!!! The vinyl version comes as LP plus 7“ packaged in a nice gatefold-sleeve while the CD will feature a digipak with 16-page booklet. Both will have extensive liner notes and track-by-track info by Darren Ross, as well as lots of photos, 7“-covers and memorabilia. Artwork by Mr. Bontempi himself, of course.

Taboo - Journey To The Centre Of The Song  10"
Celebrating one song at a time, and it’s many guises and interpretations. In this case the classic Tabu - written by Margarita Lecuona (also responsible for Babalu, a classic as well).

There is more in the works - stay tuned!

In the works: Taboo!

In the works: Taboo! Starting next month: Stag-O-Lee presents a new series called Journey To The Centre Of The Song, celebrating one song at a time, and it’s many guises and interpretations.

In this case the classic Tabu - written by Margarita Lecuona (also responsible for Babalu, a classic as well). She was a cousin of the famous Cuban composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona. Tabú (also recorded as Tabou, Tabu, and Taboo) is a jazz and popular music standard which was first recorded by Cuarteto Machin in 1934 and later made popular by The Lecuona Cuban Boys and others.

The afore mentioned guises and interpretations span genres from Charles Blackwell’s upbeat surf’strumental shaker to the brassy exotic tones of Tito Rivera, from the cumbian island sounds of Cyril Diaz to Sylvie Mora’s silky smooth popcorn rendition. Completing the record with Arthur Lyman’s crazy voodoo lounge version that evokes visions of palm trees and sun-drenched white sand.

9 versions in total on a great 10“ - vinyl only.

Out now on Stag-O-Lee! Now available at all good record shops and directly via stagoleeshop.com:

Earl Zinger & Don Rogall - Vol. 2  10"
Second of two 10"-es. A CD with three bonuscuts will follow soon. Deep down from the swamp delta of Berlin, D.C., and straight outta Gin Lane, Londinium: The feral stepsons of carpet dealers and long forgotten record sellers, Don Rogall and Earl Zinger, with their long awaited debut on the probably best label of the western hemisphere (well, now it is).
The music? Rock´n Blues, dealing with some nasty boogie, jive and ingredients of exotic origin - a new breed of juke joint anthems.

Slow Grind Fever - Vol. 4  LP
Slow Grind Fever Vol. 4 was compiled by DJ Diddy Wah from London. Insider know him from his Diddywah Blog, his radio show and from constantly DJ-ing in London hosting his own nights like Heavy Sugar, Get Rhythm and others. Expect the best in late 50s Slow Dance!
Available as well: Slow Grind Fever - Vol. 3+4 - both volumes on one CD. 30 tracks plus 16-page booklet with cool linernotes.
